About Taher
Professional Biography Dr. Taher Msallem has served in academia and higher education for more than five years as a lecturer at the former Faculty of Islamic Sciences – Souq Al-Jumaa, University of Tripoli, where he also headed the Department of Quality and Performance during the academic year 2021–2022. He currently serves full-time as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Usul al-Din, Department of Hadith and Its Sciences, University of Sharia Sciences, while simultaneously holding the position of Vice President for Academic Affairs at the same university. In addition to supervising undergraduate graduation projects, Dr. Taher Msallem teaches and conducts research at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Islamic and Arabic studies. He has published regularly in local and international peer-reviewed journals and serves as a member of the university’s academic journal, Al-Maraqi Journal. He is also an active member of the scientific committees overseeing the university’s conferences and academic events, in addition to his membership on the University Council. Alongside his academic responsibilities, he contributes to scholarly and cultural lecture series organized by the University’s Research and Consultation Department, addressing subjects such as Qur’anic exegesis and the methodologies of classical Muslim scholars. Throughout his academic career, Dr. Taher Msallem has combined university teaching, scientific research, academic administration, conference participation, and scholarly peer review. Academic Background Before joining University of Tripoli, Dr. Taher Msallem graduated from Abu Dhar Al-Ghifari Secondary School for Islamic Sciences in 2000. He later earned his bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Arts at the same university in 2004. He then pursued postgraduate studies in Malaysia, obtaining his Master’s degree from Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia in 2011, before continuing toward his PhD, which he completed in 2018. Following the completion of his doctoral studies, he worked as a teacher of Arabic Language and Islamic Studies at Al-Manahil Al-Zakhira Oya School in Kajang, Selangor, Malaysia, teaching several grade levels during the 2017–2018 academic year. Research Interests and Publications Dr. Taher Msallem has authored and published numerous peer-reviewed studies in the fields of Qur’anic exegesis, Hadith studies, Islamic manuscripts, and contemporary Islamic thought. His research has appeared in academic journals across Libya, Turkey, Jordan, Egypt, and Malaysia. His notable contributions include studies on Andalusian Qur’anic commentators, Prophetic exegesis of the Qur’an, Hadith criticism, and methodologies for editing Islamic manuscripts. He has also participated in several international conferences, including conferences on Islamic manuscripts and contemporary fatwa studies organized by Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia. Professional and Scholarly Activities Over the years, Dr. Taher Msallem has been actively involved in educational, religious, and scholarly initiatives. His contributions include teaching Qur’an studies, serving as a judge in Qur’anic competitions, delivering Friday sermons under the supervision of the Libyan Ministry of Awqaf, and participating in academic workshops and quality assurance training programs. He has also received multiple scholarly ijazahs (traditional authorizations) in Hadith transmission and Islamic classical texts from distinguished scholars at Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia, reflecting his continued engagement with both traditional Islamic scholarship and modern academic research.
